Update for NCROCAP for April 2014

Our Executive Committee has been hard at work this year, and we’re always open to hearing from members! Please let us know if you have ideas or would like to be involved in any initiatives!

1. Advocacy
Kory Stotesbury organized a very successful Advocacy Training in March 2014, where we paired with CAL-ACAP to learn about how to successfully advocate for child mental health.

2. Collaboration
We’ll be co-hosting a Film Night Discussion with the S.F. Psychological Society. All county psychological societies and the Northern California Psychiatry Society, as well as any psychologists or psychiatrists interested in mingling and engaging in discussion around 2 films are welcome!

We’re also partnering with the American Academy of Pediatrics, to join forces in advocating for foster youth, early intervention, gun violence reform, and poverty. Feel free to contact Suzan Song for info on any of these initiatives

3.  Early Career Psychiatrists
We (Kory Stotesbury and Karen Finch) have started a new committee for early career psychiatrists, to collaborate, network, and serve the needs of newly graduated psychiatrists.

4. Ethics
Our executive committee (particularly Ed Levin and George Stewart) have been leaders in the fight for more transparency from AACAP, particularly around the issue of Paroxetine (S329). They have urged AACAP to develop additional ethics review boards within the Academy and are staunch advocates for ethical practice and research.

5.  Mentoring
Roger Wu and Ed Levin, working once again within our Mentoring Committee, invited the Child & Adol Fellows at our 2 local University training programs to a delightful evening meal.  Once there, they had the opportunity to network with one another and to meet some of our more active and dedicated post grad members.  The latter, each out of training by somewhere between 1/2 year and 1/2 century, were chosen to be representative of the wide variety of career paths open to CAP’s

6. Assembly
We will be sending 5 of our executive committee members to the Assembly Meeting in May 2014, in Washington, D.C.  and have supported a CAP Fellow to the AACAP Travel Stipend. Details to come!

7.  Has everyone at the January conference received CME certificates?
If not, contact Joelle by email at ncrocap@gmail.com
